WHAT IS A STUDENT VISA

A New Zealand student visa allows international students to study full-time in an approved course.

You must have an Offer of Place from an approved education provider before applying.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To apply, you must:

  • Have an Offer of Place from a recognized institution
  • Show proof of sufficient funds for tuition and living expenses
  • Meet English language requirements
  • Have good health and character
  • Show intent to comply with visa conditions

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • Valid passport
  • Offer of Place
  • Proof of funds
  • Tuition fee payment proof (if required)
  • Academic documents
  • English test results (IELTS / equivalent)
  • Medical and police certificates

Incomplete or inconsistent documentation may lead to delays or refusal.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Receive Offer of Place
  2. Arrange required documents
  3. Apply online for student visa
  4. Provide biometrics/medical (if required)
  5. Wait for decision

Applications are submitted online through Immigration New Zealand.

PROOF OF FUNDS

You must demonstrate you can cover:

  • Tuition fees
  • Living expenses
  • Return travel

Financial evidence must be genuine and sufficient for the duration of your stay.

WHILE STUDYING IN NEW ZEALAND

Students must:

  • Stay enrolled in their approved course
  • Maintain attendance and progress
  • Follow all visa conditions

WORK RIGHTS

Most student visa holders can:

  • Work up to 20 hours per week during study
  • Work full-time during scheduled holidays
